Cardinals host Tip-Off Tournament

Catonsville, MD- The Cardinals women's basketball team held their first Tip-Off Tournament this past weekend, hosting Union College, Richard Bland, and Lackawanna College.

On November 1, 2024, Lackawanna College (1-0) faced off against CCBC Catonsville (0-1) at CCBC Catonsville's home court, ending in a narrow 76-73 victory for the visitors. Lackawanna's Salote Franklin was a standout, delivering an impressive 16 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. Teammate Jayla South contributed with 11 points and 6 rebounds.

For CCBC Catonsville, Serafina Stubbs led with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and was perfect from the line. Jayda Mayles added 12 points and 4 assists. Despite a strong push in the final quarter, Catonsville fell short. The game's intensity and back-and-forth scoring kept fans on the edge of their seats, showcasing the competitive spirit of both teams.

Union College (NJ) continued their unbeaten run with a commanding 101-45 win over the Cardinals on Sunday, bringing their record to 3-0 while Catonsville fell to 0-2. Union's aggressive offense was led by Destiny Bynum Johnson, who posted a game-high 17 points, supported by Destiny Brightwell's 10 points and six rebounds. The team's 52.4% second-quarter shooting gave them a comfortable 50-25 halftime lead.

Catonsville struggled to match Union's intensity despite efforts from Jayda Mayles and Jocelyn Fogle, who scored nine and eight points, respectively. The Cardinals showed potential but couldn't overcome Union's efficient shooting and rebounding. Union's defensive pressure limited CCBC to just 20.6% shooting from beyond the arc.

Union looks to extend their winning streak, while Catonsville seeks their first win in the next game against Bryant and Stratton (VA), hoping to improve on both ends of the court.
