Catonsville, MD – The Cardinals split their doubleheader with Rowan College on Sunday. Catonsville had an offensive outburst in Game 1, leading to an 11-3 victory. However, they couldn't repeat this success in Game 2, falling 4-2 against the Roadrunners.
Game 1
The score may not show it, but Game 1 was a close matchup through the first few innings. Rowan College tallied a run in the second and third innings, but the Cardinals matched that with three runs of their own, two in the second and one in the third.
Alana Watts broke the game open for the Cardinals, coming through with a clutch bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning. The Cardinals added five more runs in the fifth inning, ending the game at 11-3.
The top three hitters in the lineup did damage for the Cardinals. Cassidy Barth, Riley Nace, and Alana Watts combined for seven hits and six RBIs, carrying them to the win. Catonsville also received a nice start from Makayla Elligson, who went five innings while allowing just two earned runs.
Game 2
The offensive success didn't carry over into Game 2, with the Cardinals being held to just two runs and eight hits. Alana Watts had yet another huge offensive performance, going 3-4 with two singles and a homerun. Jordyn Cleveland also had two hits, including a double.
This game was all about the pitching, with both starting pitchers going the distance for their clubs. Emily Fagan had a lot of traffic on the base paths, but she kept the Cardinals in it. She went seven innings, allowing just four runs while striking out seven.
Unfortunately for Catonsville, Emily Childs had her best stuff going for Rowan. She pitched seven innings, allowing just two runs on eight hits.
