Cardinals Dominate In Doubleheader Sweep Against Skipjacks

The Cardinals boosted their season record to 11-14 with a dominant doubleheader sweep of the Chesapeake College Skipjacks on Saturday.

Game 1: Cardinals 16, Skipjacks 5

In the first game, the Skipjacks struck early with 2 runs in the first inning to take a 2-1 lead. However, the Cardinals responded in explosive fashion, scoring 6 runs in the second and 9 more in the third. Their offensive surge was supported by strong hitting, with 15 total hits in the game. Kayla Musgrove and Sarah Devilbiss each launched home runs, with Musgrove driving in 4 RBIs. Riley Nace, Madison Krupiewski, and Devilbiss each added 3 RBIs. The Cardinals led 16-2 heading into the fourth inning, and despite the Skipjacks scoring 3 more runs, the game ended in 5 innings with a final score of 16-5. Emily Fagan earned the win in the circle, striking out 4 batters.

Game 2: Cardinals 14, Skipjacks 5

Game two saw the Cardinals come out firing after a scoreless first inning. They piled up 5 runs in the second and 4 in the third to open a 9-0 lead. Alana Watts and Sarah Devilbiss led the offense, both going 3-for-4 at the plate, with Devilbiss hitting a home run. The Skipjacks fought back, scoring 3 runs in the fourth and 2 in the fifth, but the Cardinals responded with a 5-run inning, highlighted by a home run from Musgrove to close out the game. Emily Fagan picked up her second win of the day, striking out 6 batters over 3 innings.

The Cardinals will travel to Frederick Community College for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 9th. Game 1 is set to begin at 3:00 p.m., followed by Game 2 at 5:00 p.m.
