Cardinals get Walk-Off Win in Doubleheader Split against Harford Community College

Catonsville, MD – The Cardinals split their doubleheader against Harford Community College on Monday. They lost Game 1 by a score of 9-5 but bounced back in Game 2 with a 5-4 win.

Game 1

It was a close first game, with both teams scoring in the early innings. The game was knotted up at four entering the fifth inning, until Brianna Twigg put the Cardinals ahead with an RBI double. However, the lead didn't last for long.

The Owls bounced back in the top of the sixth, ambushing the Cardinals for five runs to take a 9-5 lead. This was enough to power them to the win.

Even in the loss, the Cardinals had a solid day at the plate. They tallied eleven hits on the day with three players having multi-hit performances. Brianna Twigg and Rachel Cox did damage at the top of the lineup, combining for five hits, three runs scored, and one run driven in. Sarah Devilbiss also had two hits including a double and two RBIs.

Game 2

The Cardinals led Game 2 for almost the entire game, but the Owls made things interesting in the top of the seventh inning. Trailing 4-0, the owls put together an impressive rally, capped off by a 3-run homerun by Kayla Gist to tie the game.

With the game tied at four, Sarah Devilbiss stepped to the plate for the Cardinals. She laced a single into left field, scoring Alana Watts from second base on a close play at the plate. It was a rollercoaster of a game, but the Cardinals came out on top with the walk-off victory.

Even with the blown lead in the seventh inning, Emily Fagan pitched a tremendous game for Catonsville. She went the distance, pitching all seven innings allowing just four runs while striking out five batters. Ava Blum was great offensively, going 3-3 with a double and two RBIs. They also received multi-hit performances from Alana Watts and Riley Nace.
