Cardinals can't Overcome Early Deficit in Loss to Surry Community College

Hickory, NC – After going down early, the Cardinals were unable to regain momentum in a loss to Surry Community College. A nine run first inning for Surry led them to a 10-2 win over the Cardinals.

The offense never got going for Catonsville, but they did get on the board for two runs in the fifth inning. Brianna Twigg, Alana Watts, and Sarah Devilbiss combined for six of the nine hits for the Cardinals (each having two).

The pitching got off to a bad start but settled in nicely for the Cardinals. After allowing nine first inning runs, the pitching staff allowed just one throughout the rest of the game. Emily Fagan had another nice outing, pitching three innings while allowing just three hits and one run.

Surry Community College received a big performance from their leadoff hitter Isabella Aparicio. She had three hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs in just three at bats. Nichole Cloke also had three hits of her own and drove in one.

The Cardinals will continue their road trip on Monday with a doubleheader against Byrant & Stratton Community College.
