Softball Takes Care of Business Against Howard

CCBC Catonsville's softball team kicked off their first round playoff matchup with a big win over Howard, defeating the Dragons 9-1 via run-rule.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Cardinals scored nine unanswered runs to pull away from Howard. The win marked the first postseason victory for the Cardinals since May of 2021.

The Cardinals would first strike in the bottom of the first. Trailing 1-0, Catonsville tied the contest when freshman third baseman Rachel Cox (Dundalk) scored off an error. An error by the Dragons allowed Catonsville to take the lead in the bottom of the third. Catonsville extended that lead with a sac-fly by freshman shortstop Brianna Twigg (Central York) and a two-run homerun by freshman first baseman Sarah Devilbiss (Fairfield Area). An RBI double by freshman designated player Ellora Edquist (Home School) made it 6-1 after three.

The Cardinals rolled from there, as freshman center fielder Cassidy Barth (Western Tech) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Catonsville closed out the game in the bottom of the sixth, as sophomore right fielder Mattie Brack (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) hit a solo homerun and Cox his an RBI double. The 9-1 run-rule victory put the Cardinals one win away from a trip to the Region 20 Final Four.
