Cardinals Fall to Wolverines in Close Match

FINAL: Essex County: 1 Catonsville: 0

On Saturday, September 30th, the Cardinals faced off against the Essex County Wolverines in a close contest. Catonsville recently broke its losing streak with a win against Carroll Community College and hoped to carry the momentum into this matchup. Essex County and Catonsville haven't played each other in over 10 years, so nobody knew what to expect going into the game.

The game was a defensive battle with no team scoring in the entire first half. The Cardinals had many opportunities but could not find the back of the net. Catonsville kept the opposing team on their heels while having the ball in their territory for most of the contest. This can be seen as the Cardinals outshot the Wolverines 12-5.

The Wolverines made the most of their few opportunities and in the 72nd minute scored the first and only goal of the contest. It was set up by a beautiful assist by Geovanny Zeas finished by a header from Emmanuel Valentin.

While the heartbreaking loss still hurts, there were many bright spots for the Cardinals in this contest. The offense looked much improved especially in the first 15 minutes of the game, getting many opportunities inside the box, but got unlucky on a few shots. We also saw some great strikes from Mike Miranda (Lansdowne) and Gio Guerrero (North Stafford) that just missed the mark. The defense had another great game, just allowing one goal the entire match.

The Cardinals look to bounce back on Tuesday, October 3rd, against Cecil College at 4:30pm.
