Catonsville, MD – The Cardinals swept the doubleheader against their CCBC rival on Tuesday. In their first matchup with CCBC Essex this season, Catonsville came out on top winning 14-3 in Game 1 and 5-4 in Game 2.
Game 1
The Cardinals got off to a great start with a dominant victory in Game 1 of the doubleheader. The offense was clicking on all cylinders, getting contributions all throughout the lineup. Seven different Cardinals recorded hits, with five different players driving in runs.
There were numerous standout performers for Catonsville. Lyonel Barthelemy and Tyler Sankovich both had big days, recording multiple hits and driving in three runs. Nelson Grajales and Sebastian Guzman displayed their power as well, both hitting home runs and driving in multiple runs.
The pitching was also fantastic for Catonsville, starting with Coby Vallee. Vallee pitched five innings of three run ball while striking out five batters. However, just one of the runs was earned for Vallee. Chase Kamerman also did his part, closing out the game with a scoreless inning.
Game 2

Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning, Gavin Faulkner came to the plate and delivered with a three-run home run for the Cardinals, giving them the lead.
This lead stood until the 6th inning when an Essex rally tied the game. However, the tie didn't last for long. In the bottom half of the 6th, Joel Tapia Melo hit an RBI single to regain the lead for Catonsville.
Tapia Melo was the star of Game 2, driving in the winning run while also pitching the last three innings of the game. He allowed just one run while recording the win in relief.
The Cardinals moved to 9-6 on the season thanks to the sweep. They'll look to continue this hot stretch on Saturday against Chesapeake College.
