Insane Comeback Sends Cardinals to Semifinals
CCBC Catonsville's baseball team put together the comeback of the season on Sunday, recovering from a 4-0 defecit to defeat Anne Arundel Community College 5-4 in extras.
The hero for the Cardinals was freshman pinch hitter Noah Milum (Scotland Campus), who's game-tying homerun sent the contest to extras. Milum then hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the tenth to give Catonsville a clutch victory.
Starting sophomore pitcher Sean Driscoll (Audubon) started the contest strong with four scoreless innings. Anne Arundel would snatch the lead for the first time in the top of the fifth, snagging two runs on an RBI single and a third on a fielder's choice. The Riverhawks would extend their lead in the top of the seventh, scoring on a throwing error by freshman catcher Nelson Grajales (Arundel).
Now trailing 4-0, the Cardinals needed a miracle to keep their playoff run alive. The miracle would emerge in the bottom of the eighth as sophomore right fielder Trenton Snyder (Oak Park) got the ball rolling. Snyder smacked an RBI triple to get Catonsville on the board. Then, sophomore first baseman Nick Stergiou (Broadneck) brought Snyder home with an RBI single. Stergiou would score on a sac-fly by freshman designated hitter Sam Kelly (Mt. Hebron), making the game a 4-3 contest.
Needing just one run to tie the game, the Cardinals sent Milum into the contest. His game-tying homerun in the bottom of the ninth was the flourish of an incredible two-inning comeback. Milum then hit the game-winning single in the bottom of the tenth to send Catonsville to the semifinals.
