CCBC Catonsville vs College of Southern Maryland game 1 recap
On Thursday May 2nd the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals hosted the College of Southern Maryland Hawks in their final regular season double header of the year. In the first game of the double header the Cardinals would win the game 13-5 and one win away from securing the second seed for the region XX tournament.
In the first inning after the Hawks went scoreless the Cardinals would get on the board after back-to-back walks from Tank Kelley (Winter Park) and Tyler Sankovich (Laurel Highlands) then Trenton Snyder (Oak Park) would hit a 3 run homerun to center field then Nick Stergiou (Broadneck) would get hit by a pitch then Nelson Grajales (Arundel) would hit a single to left and after Gavin Faulkner (Edgewater) would reach by an error by the shortstop the bases were loaded and Alex Valdez (Blair) would hit a sacrifice fly to score Stergiou from third.
In the second inning after the Hawks went scoreless in the top half the Cardinals would keep scoring after a leadoff walk by Jake Long (Arundel) he would steal second then Tyler Sankovich would be walked for the second time and then Trenton Snyder would get another rbi after he reached first on an error by the shortstop which allowed Long to score from second.
In the third the Hawks would show some signs of life after they scored three in the top half, but the Cardinals would answer back with three of their own. Nick Stergiou would lead off the inning with a hit by pitch then after another single to left by Nelson Grajales then after a sacrifice fly by Gavin Faulkner to move Stergiou to third then Alex Valdez would reach on an error by the second baseman to score Stergiou then Joey Hurtado (The Villages Charter) would also reach on an error the second baseman and the would score Grajales from second then Jake Long single to scenter field to score Hurtado making the score 8-3 going into the fourth.
In the fourth the Hawks would get two more runs but again the Cardinals would answer with two of their own. As Trenton Snyder walked and Nick Stergiou singled, Nelson Grajales singled to left again to score Snyder from second then Gavin Faulkner would also single to left and scored Stergiou from second, making the score 10-5.
After a three up three down inning from the Hawks the Cardinals would keep scoring as Jake Long would lead off the inning with a single then Tank Kelley would follow with a single of his own the after Tyler Sankovich grounded out to first which move Kelley to second and Long to third Trenton Snyder would hit a sacrifice fly which would score Long then a Nick Stergiou double would score Kelley from second then Nelson Grajales would hit another single giving him a four hit game and that would score Stergiou from second making the score 13-5.
After a scoreless sixth by both teams Sean Driscoll (Audubon) would finish his complete game with three quick outs in the seventh as the Cardinals would win their first game of the double header 13-5 and having to win one more game to be the second seed for the Region XX tournament.
