CCBC Catonsville vs CCBC Dundalk Game 1 Recap

On Tuesday April 23rd, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals hosted the CCBC Dundalk Lions in double header. In the first game of the double header the Cardinals where able to pull out a close one in a 9-6 victory over the Lions. 

In the first inning after the Lions went down in order. With two outs Trenton Synder (Oak Park) would hit a double then Nick Stergiou (Broadneck) would also hit a double to score Synder and make the score 1-0.  

In the fourth inning, after 2 scoreless innings by both teams the Lions would get on the board in the top of the inning, but the Cardinals would answer right back after a leadoff single by Nelson Grajales (Arundel) Gavin Faulkner (Edgewater) would hit a home run to left field for his first of the year to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead. 

In the fifth after John Perozzi (Audubon) put up another scoreless inning Tyler Sankovich (Laurel Highlands) would lead off the inning with a single then Nick Stergiou would hit a single then after a wild pitch moving Sankovich to third Nelson Grajales would hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Sankovich and making the score 4-1. 

In the sixth the Lions would tie the game in the top half of the inning but in the bottom half the Cardinals offense would explode for 5 runs. Gavin Faulkner would get it started with a single the Joey Hurtado (The Villages Charter) would get on with a bunt single then the runners would move to second and third after a sacrifice bunt by Elijah Charlot (University Christian) then Tank Kelley (Winter Park) would hit a 2 rbi double down the left field line then Tyler Sankovich would single to score Kelley then after Nick Stergiou was intentionally walked a wild pitch would move Sankovich and Stergiou to second and third then Nelson Grajales would hit a 2 rbi single to make the score 9-4 going into the seventh. 

In the seventh the Lions tried to rally a comeback scoring two runs, but it wouldn't be enough as the Cardinals would win the game 9-6 winning the first game of the doubleheader and extending their win streak to three games.
