Three Lady Cardinals Commit to Four-Year Schools

CCBC Catonsville and coach Chuck Slater are proud to announce that three softball players have committed to four-year universities.

Chrissy Jordan (INF/P), Casey Turner (SS), and Marissa Heuer (P) have all committed to four-year colleges. The trio of sophomore athletes have all been key players both on the offensive and defensive side of the game.

Jordan has committed to Goldey-Beacom, a DII school located in Wilmington, DE. She split her time between third-base and the mound, playing in every game but one. Jordan was a key defensive athlete and provided clutch run support at the plate. Offensively, she would post a .338 average and .423 on-base percentage with 14 RBI's and 14 runs scored. On the mound, Jordan would post a 6-2 record with five complete games and one shutout. In 44 innings pitched, she would strike out 33 and record a 3.02 ERA. Her batting average against was a mere .232- keeping on pace with the low runs against for the team. As a student, Jordan is also a star. She finished the season with a perfect 4.0 GPA, allowing her to make First Team Academic All-American on both the NJCAA and Region XX levels. She would also make the All-Academic team on the Maryland Juco level. When asked about her time at CCBC Catonsville and commitment to Goldey-Beacom, Jordan said "I am so glad to have had the chance to experience my first two years of college at CCBC; both academically and athletically. I'm even more grateful to have been able to play softball for this team and this school. Between the lifelong friendships with my teammates and the valuable lessons learned from our coaches, I believe that I have become a better person and player to carry on into the future. I am ecstatic to see what is to come as I have been given the opportunity to further my education while simultaneously continuing my softball career at Goldey-Beacom College."

Turner has committed to University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), a DI school located right across the way in Catonsville, MD. Turner started all 48 games at shortstop for the Cardinals in the 2019 season- and provided key offense and defensive for the nationally-ranked program. She led the team with a .529 batting average- which placed her fourth in the nation for NJCAA DII. Turner also posted seven homeruns, .860 slugging percentage, led the MD Juco conference with 63 RBI's, six triples, and 70 runs scored. On April 2nd, 2019, she was recognized as NJCAA DII player of the week for her outstanding performance at the plate. On the defensive side of the game, she posted a .917 fielding percentage along with assisting in three double-plays. At the conclusion of her freshman year, Turner would be selected to the NFCA 3rd Team All-American, 1st Team All-MD Juco, and 1st Team All-Region XX. When asked about her time at CCBC and commitment to UMBC, Turner stated "I am very grateful for the opportunity I have had to play softball the last two years at CCBC Catonsville. With that, I am very excited to be continuing my softball and academic career at UMBC this coming fall. I am thankful for the opportunities that I have had during the past two years and I am excited to see what the future holds!"

Heuer has committed to Stevenson University, a DIII school located in Owings Mills, MD. She proved to be a threat both on the mound and at the plate and helped lead the Lady Cardinals to a 37-9 record. With 21 wins on the mound, Heuer is one of the all-time leaders in game won in a single-season under coach Chuck Slater. She was credited with a 1.26 ERA in the regular season which would be sixth lowest in NJCAA DII, and 20 wins in the regular season which would be seventh most in NJCAA DII. Her 150 strikeouts would place her second in MD-Juco. She would lead MD-Juco in final ERA (1.55), wins (21), and saves (2). At the plate, Heuer would end the season with a .388 batting average, .477 on-base percentage, 57 RBI's (second in MD-Juco), eight homeruns (T-third in MD-Juco), and a.674 slugging percentage.  For the month of March, Heuer was named the MD-Juco Student-Athlete of the month. She would post an 11-1 record that month with 80 strikeouts and just 20 walks in 72 innings pitched. Heuer would record a career high 12 strikeouts in one game against Garrett. At the plate, she posted a .420/.524/.667 including three homeruns, eight doubles, and 31 RBI's. At the conclusion of her freshman year she would be named to First Team All-MD Juco, and First Team All-Region XX. When asked about her time at CCBC and commitment to Stevenson, Heuer stated "It has been a huge blessing being able to play the sport I love at CCBC Catonsville. I am very thankful for my teammates, coaches, and my family that have helped me get this far. Through God's grace and mercy, I am excited to continue my education and softball career at Stevenson University. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity and I am excited to see what Stevenson University has in store for me."
