Cardinal Track & Field Team Ready for 2020 Season

All-American Quarter-miler Dalon Harris returns to lead a young talented team

In it's 2nd year of competition after a 20+ year absence, the men's & women's T&F team looks to continue making headlines but on a much larger scale.  Head Coach Mark Pryor worked hard to find more talented athletes for a rebuilding program.  With very little recent history, Coach Pryor is asking student-athletes to trust his word and experience.  Well in 2020, there is clear evidence that the CCBC Cardinal T&F team is a viable college option.

In its very first year, the Cardinal T&F team taunted a JUCO national class athlete in freshman Dalon Harris who earned All-American honors at the 2019 NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships in the men's 400m run.  The team has added 3 talented freshman who hope to join Harris in his quest to return to the Junior College Nationals and improve on his finish.  Dalon Harris is one of 4 returning finishers in that Nationals 400m final.  But just making the finals are not in his plans.  The work he has been putting in since August illustrate that goal clear and concisely.

Following closely behind Harris in practice are freshman Adam Lmansour and Ryheim Hall.  Both freshman have been working extremely hard in the weight room and on the track.  Coach Pryor feels the leadership of Harris will greatly help his teammates transition from high school to collegiate T&F.  Another freshman working hard to compete on the college level is JP Magambo from Towson HS.  Last year, JP was injured and didn't run to his full potential.  So in 2020, he has a lot to prove.  Amirah Adigun has realized the big difference from high school track and college athletics. But that has not stopped her from working hard as a member of the Cardinal T&F team.

Coach Etroy Nelson has worked hard in preparing the athletes in the weight room for the upcoming season.  His strength and conditioning program has enabled the athletes to train with confidence knowing their progress has been positive and steady without any major injuries.

This year's season will start on March 21st at the Univ of Mary Washington Opener.  Weather permitting, the team is eager to compete. One of the highlight of the season will be the Gamecock Invitational on April 11th at the University of South Carolina.  This meet will offer the Cardinals an opportunity to compete in warm weather against schools from the SEC, Big 10, Big South, ACC and MEAC Division I conferences.  Its a chance to show those schools that our athletes can compete on that level.  Coach Pryor is excited and thankful this meet was added to the schedule as whether can be a defining factor in outdoor events.

The culmination of the season will be to qualify and compete at the 2020 NJCAA Outdoor T&F Championships on May 14-16th in Hutchinson Kansas on the campus of Hutchinson CC.

Stay tuned for more news and updates on the Cardinals T&F team.
