Men's Soccer Game Preview: Montgomery College

With an impressive opening day victory behind them, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals men’s soccer team is gearing up for their first conference match of the season. It’ll be a big one, as the Cardinals, sitting third in Region 20 after opening weekend, will face the defending Region XX champions this week. Ahead of them lies Montgomery College. Here is everything you need to know before Thursday’s match!

Opponent: Montgomery College Raptors

Location: Murray Stadium Field, CCBC Catonsville, Catonsville, Maryland

Time: 5:00 PM

Records: Catonsville - 1-0, Montgomery - 1-0

Scouting Report: Led by head coach Pedro Baz, the Raptors opened their season with a 1-0 victory over Carroll Community College on Tuesday. The defending Region 20 champions rode a dominant offense to the NJCAA Nationals last season, only to come up short in the second round. With returning starters left and right, plus a defense that allowed just three total shots in their opener, the Raptors will be a serious challenge to the Cardinals.

In just one contest, the Cardinals showed a much-improved offensive attack over last season, defeating Mercer 2-1 in their debut. Catonsville won its first season-opener since 2019 behind a relentless offensive attack and a solid defensive contribution, holding back a Mercer comeback attempt in the closing minutes. Leading the way for Catonsville was sophomore striker Mike Miranda, who scored the first goal of the season for the Cardinals. Freshman forward Bradley Ramirez scored one goal on four shots, while freshman goalie Franklin Duarte held Mercer to just a single goal.

Last Meeting: Catonsville and Montgomery played late last season, with the Raptors snatching a 6-1 victory over the Cardinals en route to the Region 20 title.
