Men's Soccer Game Preview: Howard Community College

Two games into the 2023 season and the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals men’s soccer team is looking good. An impressive win over Mercer and a tight loss to defending Division I champs Montgomery have been the highlights of this young, exciting Cardinals team. Next up for the Cardinals is a match against rival Howard in the first divisional game of the season. Here is everything you need to know before Tuesday’s game!

Opponent: Howard Community College Dragons

Location: Murray Stadium Field, CCBC Catonsville, Catonsville, Maryland

Time: 5:00 PM

Records: Catonsville - 1-1, Howard - 1-1

Scouting Report: The Howard Dragons enter their 20th season under head coach Stefan Draganov after an 11-7 record in 2022. Posting one of the best offenses in the region, the Dragons opened their 2023 campaign with a 3-0 victory over Shaw University. However, in their last contest, the Dragons were upset by Cape Fear Community College. They enter Tuesday’s match looking to win their third straight game over the Cardinals, having beaten Catonsville in the regular season last year and in the last Cardinal playoff appearance.

Catonsville enters Tuesday’s match coming off a hard-fought loss to Montgomery. Facing a more experienced opponent, Catonsville’s defense kept the game close, allowing only a single goal to the defending Region 20 Division I champs. Cardinals goalie Franklin Duarte (Meade) made four excellent saves, including a penalty kick that kept the score 1-0. With a young offense showing plenty of potential, this is a Cardinals team hungry to prove themselves.

Last Meeting: Catonsville and Howard met on opening weekend last season, with the Dragons winning 9-1.
