It was a back and forth battle all night for the men's soccer team. The two teams were evenly matched in this contest that could have gone either way. The Cardinals appeared to have the edge in the first half despite the two sides going to the half scoreless.
In the 23rd minute, Catonsville had what seemed a sure goal when defender, Jacob Ellison, sent in a perfect cross through the box in the air that was miss-hit off the head of Hayden Snowe and found a way into the hands of Montgomery's goalkeeper. In the 31st minute, Ellison was almost a part of a goal again as he sent in a ball from well outside the box which seemed destined for the back of the net but was just high.
In the 63rd minute, the Cardinals had two more great opportunities to take the lead. Iliass Zouita ripped a shot off a volley that was headed on target before being stopped by the hand of a Montgomery player right outside of the box resulting in a free kick; Kevin Correa's shot off the free kick was blocked by Montgomery defenders and the Cardinals could not capitalize.
It was just five minutes later that Montgomery took the lead on a header by, Francisco Mangue, which was sent in on a cross by Akrem Seid. This would be the only goal of the night as Montgomery would come away with the 1-0 win.
The defense worked hard for the Cardinals limiting opportunities and keeping the team within one goal. Defender, Wilton Moscoso, was all over the field on defense, as well as putting two shots on goal. Goalkeeper, Austin Warner, recorded seven saves on the night.
This loss drops the team's record to 5-6-1 on the season. They will be back in action on Friday, September 27th at 6 PM as they travel to face Anne Arundel Community College.
