Cardinals Struggle at Howard

Columbia, MD- The CCBC Catonsville Cardinals men's basketball team endured a tough night on the road, falling 86-40 to the Howard Community College Dragons. The Cardinals struggled offensively, shooting just 26.5% from the field, while Howard's relentless defense and fast-paced offense proved too much to handle.

Offensive Struggles Plague Cardinals

Wendall Tomlin led the Cardinals in scoring with 10 points, going 2-for-9 from the field but making all six of his free throws. Micah Morgan added 8 points and 6 rebounds, while Lance Porter contributed 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 blocks. However, the Cardinals' shooting woes hurt their chances, as they managed just two three-pointers on 16 attempts (12.5%) and had 28 turnovers.

Karris Scott chipped in with 5 points and 5 rebounds, while Kamren Hayes provided some energy off the bench with 6 points. Cameron Sampson and Kaleb Gray added 2 points each, but the Cardinals' bench production remained limited.

Howard's Pressure Proves Overwhelming

From the opening tip, the Dragons set the tone with stifling defense and efficient offense. CCBC Catonsville struggled to find a rhythm, leading to multiple fast-break opportunities for Howard. The Cardinals committed 28 turnovers, allowing the Dragons to capitalize and extend their lead early.

While CCBC Catonsville managed to make 66.7% of their free throws (12-for-18), their inability to convert from the floor made it difficult to keep pace. Despite their efforts on the glass, where they grabbed 32 rebounds, Howard's efficiency proved to be the difference in the blowout.

Looking to Rebound

The loss drops CCBC Catonsville further in the standings, but the Cardinals will aim to regroup and adjust before their next matchup against Westmoreland. Cutting down turnovers and improving their shooting efficiency will be key as they look to bounce back going into the Region 20 tournament.
