Cardinals Drop Third Straight Game

Cardinals Drop Third Straight Game

On February 13, the Cardinals men's basketball team took on Howard Community College, losing 84-56.

It was a tough evening for the Cardinals, facing the best team in their region. After keeping it close in the first half, the Cardinals would lose steam, falling 84-56.

In the first half, both teams were finding it difficult to get anything going offensively. The Cardinals would find themselves fighting from behind throughout the quarter. With 14 minutes left in the quarter, The Cardinals were losing 7-2. A Christopher Johnson (St. George's High School) jump shot, and a Keith Bullock (Cardozo High School) layup would close the gap 7-6. With four minutes left to go in the half, the Cardinals were down 25-12. Five points from Maurice Smith (Newton High School) and a layup from Jonathan Chester (Largo High School) would draw the score close again, 25-19. Going into the half, the Cardinals were down 34-23.

In the second half, the Cardinals would start off hot, thanks to a three-pointer from Jalen Yates (Baltimore City High School). However, in the second half, Howard Community College would find a groove on offense. An 11-point deficit at half turned into a 30-point deficit with eight minutes to go in the game. The Cardinals would not go down without a fight. Darrian Jones (St. Frances Academy) would go into a tear, scoring eight points in the last three minutes of the game. As the final buzzer sounded, the Cardinals would be handed one of their worst losses of the season, 84-56.
