Cardinals Come Up Just Short to Navy

The CCBC Catonsville Men's Basketball team took on Navy JV on Thursday January 12, falling short to the Midshipmen 93-88.

The Cardinals had a rocky start to the game after going down early to Navy JV by 17 at the half. The Cardinals were able to mount a second half comeback, out scoring the Midshipmen 54-42. Unfortunately it would not be enough for the Cardinals to come out victorious as they would end the game 5 points short completing the comeback.

On the road, the Cardinals offense struggled to get on a roll, only managing to score 34 points as Navy JV led 51-34.

In the second half the Cardinals would find their groove and start mounting a comeback. Behind 19- and 18-point games from Christopher Johnson (St. George's High School)  and Jalen Yates (Baltimore City High School)  respectively, the Cardinals would diminish their half-time deficit of 17 points to 5. Despite the Cardinals best efforts, their comeback would fall short as they would lose to the Midshipmen 93-88.

The Cardinals leading scorer was Christopher Johnson with 19 points along with 7 rebounds and going 7-10 from the free throw line. Jalen Yates would finish with 18 points going 6-10 from behind the arch, tying a season best for 3-point percentage. Both Keith Bullock (Cardozo High School) and Maurice Smith (Newton High School) finished with 12 points.

The Cardinals are now 5-10.
