Cardinals suffer tough loss against Allegany
The Cardinals men's basketball team fell to 2-5 on the season after their loss to the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans on Tuesday, November 22nd.
From the very beginning, the Trojans looked like the stronger team, going on a 7-0 run to start the game. A lay-up by freshman forward Kaleb Gray (Friendship Collegiate) would give the Cardinals their first points of the game at the 14:49 minute mark of the first half. Freshman guard Iru Pettis (Randallstown) would get his first points of the night a minute later, but the Trojans would go on yet another 7-0 run to take an 18-7 lead.
Catonsville tried their hardest to get the offense going in the final ten minutes of the half, but Allegany kept the Cardinals to just 27 points scored in the period.
Allegany would come out of halftime on fire, taking a 24-point lead on Catonsville from a successful 2-2 trip to the free throw line from sophomore guard Dalyn Brandon (Scotland Prep). The story of the second half was Allegany's ability to answer Catonsville's attack. For every bucket the Cardinals made, the Trojans would answer with their own, which made it very difficult for the Cardinals to cut into the Trojan's lead.
Despite a stronger offensive display by the Cardinals, scoring 50 points in the second half, the Trojans would win 97-77.
The Cardinals were missing sophomore guard Keith Bullock (Cardozo), who has performed very well in the games he has played this season, averaging 12 points and eight assists per game. In his absence, freshman guard Iru Pettis (Randallstown) and sophomore guard Maurice Smith (Newton) would take the reins and put up 16 points and 20 points respectively.
Catonsville will look to get back to winning ways after two consecutive losses this Wednesday, November 30th when they travel to Northern Virginia Community College to take on the Nighthawks.
