Cardinals Lose a Close Doubleheader Allegany College of Maryland

Cumberland, MD – The Cardinals lost a close doubleheader against Allegany College of Maryland, with both games being decided by three runs or less. They lost Game 1 by a score of 6-3 and Game 2 by a score of 11-10.

Game 1

The Cardinals were in an early hole in Game 1, trailing 5-0 after the second inning. They responded with two runs in the third inning, but the Trojans pitching staff shut them down the rest of the way.

It was a quiet day for the offense, leading to just seven hits and just two for extra bases. Nelson Grajales was the only Cardinal with multiple hits, going 2-4 with two singles and an RBI. Joel Tapia Melo also reached base twice, going 1-2 with a walk.

The positives in Game 1 came from the bullpen. Dominick Venta pitched four innings in relief for Catonsville while allowing just two runs. Brayden Becker finished the game with a scoreless frame in the bottom of the sixth.

Game 2

Game 2 was a heartbreaking loss for Catonsville. They had an eight-run fifth inning, giving them a commanding 8-2 lead. However, the Trojans fought back, scoring eight runs in the next three innings. The game was tied at 10 heading into extra innings. After the Cardinals couldn't score in the top of the eighth, The Trojans walked off the Cardinals, completing the comeback.

The offense had a nice game, scoring ten runs while recording eight hits and walking ten times. Joel Tapia Melo reached base four more times in Game 2, going 1-2 with an RBI and three walks. A.J Palumbo, Nelson Grajales, and Tyler Sankovich each had two RBIs and Chase Kamerman had two hits and an RBI as well.
