Vallee Tosses Complete Game in Split with CCBC Essex

The CCBC Catonsville baseball team split their doubleheader in a CCBC showdown with Essex on April 24. The first game saw the Cardinals come out on top with a dominant 9-0 victory, while the second game ended in a tough 14-1 defeat. The split brings Catonsville's overall record to 26-21 and their conference record to 19-13.

Game 1 Recap
CCBC Catonsville delivered a masterful performance in game one, securing a 9-0 win. The offense came alive in the second inning, plating six runs. Jaedan Kelley was at the forefront, driving in two with a single, and A.J. Palumbo followed up with a 2-RBI double, breaking the game open. The Cardinals didn't stop there—Jake Long's sacrifice fly added another run, and Kelley capitalized on an error to cross the plate, giving Catonsville a commanding 6-0 lead. The team added three more in the seventh, with Kelley and Palumbo each bringing in a run, and Lyonel Barthelemy drawing a walk to plate another. On the mound, Coby Vallee was nearly untouchable, tossing a complete-game shutout. He allowed only five hits, struck out six, and walked just one, effectively neutralizing Essex's offense and maintaining control throughout the game.

Game 2 Recap
Game two proved to be a struggle for Catonsville, as they fell to Essex 14-1 in five innings. The Knights jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first and continued to pile on runs, crossing the plate in every inning. Defensive miscues proved costly, as three errors led to several unearned runs for Essex. Starting pitcher Joel Tapia Melo took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) over two innings. Relievers A.J. Bender and Brayden Becker also saw time on the mound, but the damage had been done. Offensively, the Cardinals were limited to just three hits, with Palumbo providing the lone RBI on a double down the left field line in the fifth to score Kelley. Tapia Melo and Jake Long each added a hit, but the team struggled to generate consistent scoring opportunities against a strong Essex pitching staff that didn't allow any earned runs in the five-inning contest.
