Cardinals Can't Complete the Sweep After Game 1 Victory Against College of Southern Maryland

La Plata, MD – The Cardinals split their doubleheader against Southern Maryland on Tuesday. The doubleheader got off to a great start with a 9-3 victory in Game 1, but the Southern Maryland Hawks bounced back with a 6-3 victory in Game 2.

Game 1

Game 1 was a great all-around performance from the Cardinals. The offense got going early, putting up one run in the first inning, two in the second, and three in the third. They'd go on to add three more in the sixth inning as well.

The Cardinals tallied 14 hits, and every starter reached base. Nelson Grajales and Lyonel Barthelemy led the way for Catonsville, each going 3-4 with a double and two RBIs. Sebastian Guzman also had two RBIs, going 2-4 with a double.

Catonsville also received solid performances from each of their three pitchers. Coby Vallee went five innings, allowing just two runs while striking out three batters. Dominck Venta came on in relief and threw a scoreless inning, while A.J Bender closed out the victory with a one-run seventh inning.

Game 2

The success didn't carry over for the Cardinals in Game 2, with the offense and the pitching staff struggling. Offensively, the Cardinals had just five hits as a team. Tyler Sankovich had the most success of any Cardinals hitter, going 2-3 with two singles and a walk. The opposing Hawks had a very tough day defensively, recording seven errors as a team. However, the Cardinals failed to capitalize on these mistakes.

The pitching staff also struggled in Game 2. A.J Palumbo struggled with his command, walking six batters in 4.1 innings. However, he did limit the Hawks to just four runs. Bryson Prietz came on in relief, allowing two runs in 1.2 innings.
