Cardinals Drop Close Game Against Garrett College

Catonsville, MD – The Cardinals started their doubleheader at home against Garrett College on Tuesday. Game 1 went down to the wire, but the Cardinals late comeback fell just short.

The Cardinals got off to a hot start in Game 1, scoring three runs in the first inning. A.J Palumbo got the scoring started with an RBI double, immediately followed by a 2-run double by Nelson Grajales.

The Cardinals held a 4-1 lead going into the fourth inning, until Garrett responded with four runs of their own. Brandyn Gonzalez and Tristan Kenzevich came through for Garrett, each hitting a homerun in the inning to take a 5-4 lead.

By the bottom of the seventh inning, Catonsville was trailing 8-5. They managed to push across two more runs in the bottom of the seventh but left the tying run on base to end the game. The last batter struck out on a very questionable check swing that was ruled a swinging strike, leaving a bitter taste in the Cardinals mouth heading into game two. The final score was 8-7.

The offensive stars of the game were A.J Palumbo and Jaedan Kelley, who each tallied two hits and an RBI for the Cardinals. The pitching struggled, but A.J Bender provided three solid innings in relief, allowing just one run.
