The Cardinals advance to the Region XX D2 Final Four

The Cardinals advance to the Region XX D2 Final Four

Trojans 1(24-20, 12-14), Cardinals 5(20-15,16-7). WP – Travis Weaver (1-0), LP – Jeff Luttrell (0-1)

This was a great first game in the Regionals XX Tournament for the Cardinals. Allegany came off a win the day before against The College of Southern Maryland. So, they had the momentum coming into today's game. That didn't matter because the Cardinals came out scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to gain an early lead. There was no more scoring in the game until the Trojans scored one from an infield single. That run would have been avoided if there wasn't an error beforehand which allowed the runner to get on base. In the bottom of the inning, the Cardinals added two more runs from a double and a wild pitch to extend their lead to 5-1. Travis Weaver pitched a phenomenal game, going seven innings with four strikeouts and only allowing one unearned run. Travis Fullerton came in after Weaver and shut the door, throwing two shutout innings to secure the win for the Cardinals. Alex Elliott and Dwayne Thomas had two hits on the day while Aronne Dutton, Wyatt Moore, Caleb Bailey, and Tyler Shadle each had one hit.

The Cardinals visit Frederick Community College for their next game in the tournament on May 10th at 3:30PM.
