CCBC Catonsville rallies late to gain the first win of the season

LINE SCORE: Knights (0-1), Cardinals (1-0), WP- Austin Galda (1-0), LP- Austin Mumaw (0-1)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

 

  • The Knights broke the seal first by scoring off an error made by the right fielder in the top of the 2ndinning. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Sam Rodriguez doubled to center field which scored one run. Wyatt Moore singled to center field after, and another run scored to help the Cardinals take the lead.
  • In the top of the 3rd inning Mitchell Haywood singled down the right field line and brought in 2 RBIs to help Essex regain the lead.
  • The score stayed the same until the 5th inning and then the Knights broke the game wide open by scoring a total of 6 runs from a combination of a 3-run homer, stolen bases, and a fielder's choice. The Cardinals answered back in the bottom of the 5th with an RBI groundout to 2nd base.
  • The Cardinals started slowly chipping away at the deficit with a solo homerun by Dwayne Thomas.
  • The score remained 9-4 Essex until the bottom of the 9th inning when the Cardinals scored 6 runs with 2 outs in walk-off fashion.

 

STANDOUT STATS

 

  • Travis Weaver struck out five in his first three-inning start. 
  • Alex Elliott pitched three innings and only gave up two hits and zero earned runs.
  • Austin Galda pitched one inning of relief and struck out the side, and was also awarded the win. 
  • Dwayne Thomas hit a nuke over the CF wall to drive in one run.
  • Freshman Trent Rowland hits a walk-off single to score two runs.
