Six Cardinals Capture Soccer Awards
Congratulations to six Cardinal soccer athletes on earning post season honors.
Men's Soccer:
Joseph Sefoi – All-Region XX DI 2nd Team & All-MD JUCO 2nd Team
Hugo Baptiste – All-Region XX DI 1st Team
Brandon Basilio – All-Region XX DI 2nd Team
Women's Soccer:
Yuliza Argueta – All-Region XX DI 1st Team
Elaina Ertel – All-Region XX DI 2nd Team
Brittany Johnson – All-MD JUCO 2nd Team
Sefoi, Baptiste and Basilio are all sophomores while Argueta, Ertel and Johnson are freshmen. Joseph Sefoi was a jack of all trades for the Cardinals this season, stepping back from an attacking position to defense early in the season due to debilitating injuries on the back line. Hugo Baptiste was a shutdown defender that battled injury throughout the season, but was able to battle through and keep enemy opponents goal scoring threats to a minimum. Brandon Basilio is a goal keeper that is as athletic as the come. The squad could count on him to come up with some spectacular saves in critical situations.
Yuliza Argueta was an athletic play stopping defender that could shut down opponent's top scorers. She was a backbone of the Cardinals frustrating pack it in style defensive play this season, but had the ability to score off of set pieces and by making offensive runs from the back. Elaina Ertel an attacking forward/midfielder by nature was often times moved to the defensive back against strong opponents, which limited her caps, but her strong play and ability were evident to anyone that watched the squad play. Brittany Johnson, a goalkeeper by trade, split her time in the field this season. When tending the goal Brittany made teams work hard to find the back of the net.
Congratulations to the above players on these honors and good luck to our sophomores as they are finalizing their plans to continue playing and studying at the next level.
