1961-1963

A 1961 graduate of Catonsville High School (Catonsville, Md.), Dennis D. Duffy was one of a handful of student athletes who started the tradition of excellence in intercollegiate athletics at CCBC Catonsville.

Duffy starred in the 440-yard run, 880-yard run (set campus record in 1963), mile run, 2-mile run, and 4 x 400-meter relay.

He excelled at the guard spot on the fourth and fifth basketball teams ever offered at CCBC Catonsville. Duffy is also believed to be the first CCBC Catonsville student-athlete to receive an athletic scholarship to the four-year level (University of Maryland - College Park, Md.).

A lifelong athlete, he established three USA Masters Track and Field world records (4 x 200-meter relay, sprint medley and distance medley).

Duffy has won eight United States Masters Track and Field titles in 400-meters and 800-meters races and numerous gold and silver medals on six different continents: Melbourne (Australia), Kamloops (Canada), Gateshead (England), Sindelfingen (Germany), Lima (Peru), Durban (South Africa), Oregon, New York and Puerto Rico (USA) and Daegu (South Korea).

After earning his Associate of Arts degree from CCBC Catonsville in 1963, Duffy would go on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland (1965) and two Master of Arts degrees from Fresno State University (Fresno, Calif. - 1968 and 1976).
