A Valiant Effort, Lady Cardinals Fall to Camden County

Catonsville, Md. -- CCBC Catonsville dropped a home match to the Cougars of Camden County College 11-0 Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Joseph P. Murray Stadium.

The Cardinals (0-3) fell into a 10-0 halftime deficit and ultimately had to concede after injuries left them below the minimum players needed to play.

Camden would get on the board first as sophomore forward Vita Maisak scored off a pass from freshman forward Logan Koester in the fifth minute. Koester would add two more goals in the 11th and 15th minutes to bring Camden to a 3-0 lead.

Catonsville's string of bad luck began when freshman goalkeeper Samisha Conner suffered an injury while leaping to save a shot.

Freshman defender Amaree McKnight, one of three new additions to the Cardinals, was substituted in as an emergency goalkeeper.

The Cougars immediately took advantage, scoring four goals in quick succession to take a commanding 7-0 lead.

The Cardinals had a scoring opportunity in the 34th minute, as freshman midfielder Marlyn Ordonez-Martinez and freshman forward Krista Wagner teamed up to drive deep into Cougar territory.

Despite their best efforts, the Cardinals' chance was interrupted after the Cougars' intercepted Ordonez-Martinez's corner kick to regain control.

Camden added three more goals to close out the half, taking a 10-0 lead into halftime.

CCBC Catonsville entered halftime without Wagner, who left the game in the closing minutes of the half.

The Cardinals opened the second half with a more aggressive attack, as McKnight and Martinez both had opportunities to score.

In the 48th minute, McKnight, who had been replaced as goalkeeper by freshman defender Melaina Sipes, had her corner kick taken away by Koester, who sent a deep pass to Maisak.

Maisak quickly scored her fourth goal of the game, giving the Cougars an 11-0 lead.

One minute later, Ordonez-Martinez had a chance with a wide-open net but collided with a Camden player before she could get off a shot.

Ordonez-Martinez would leave the game with an apparent injury, giving the Cardinals just eight players left.

Catonsville freshman defender Pariya Ahmadi went down with an injury in the 65th minute. With only seven players left, the Cardinals were unable to continue the match.
