Cardinals Come Up Short In CCBC Derby

CCBC Catonsville's women's basketball team came up short in the annual rivalry game against CCBC Essex, falling 78-64.

Despite two players scoring double digits, the Cardinals were unable to overcome an early deficit to their rivals.

Trailing 25-14 after the first quarter, the Cardinals outscored Essex in the second and kept pace throughout the third. Capitalizing on turnovers, the Cardinals trailed by nine entering the final quarter. However, a scoring outburst from Essex would put the game away. The Knights built up a 15-point lead and never looked back as they cruised to the win.

Despite the loss, the Cardinals played valiantly against their arch-rivals. Sophomore guard Tenea Robinson (Baltimore Poly Tech) dropped 20 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Sophomore forward Dasia Townes (Baltimore Poly Tech) led all players with 26 points, 19 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. Freshman forward Serafina Stubbs (Owings Mills) added nine rebounds.

Next up for the Cardinals is a match with Allegany College of Maryland on Friday, January 27.
