Lady Cardinals take the loss against its sister rival; The Knights

Catonsville, Md. – Last night's game was a battle between two sister rivals; the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals and the CCBC Essex Knights women's basketball teams. Although the Cardinals didn't pull out a win, they put up a good fight throughout the entire game.
The Cardinals started off strong with Amaree McKnight (National Christian Academy) making the first jump shot of the game and Morgan Gause (Oldfields) with a layup causing the Cardinals to go up 4-2 against the Knights within the first two minutes of the game.
With the Cardinals being down to only six players, the majority of the team played almost a full 40 minutes. The five starters Sidney Spence (0), Belinda Glenn (2), Erin McGuire (11), Morgan Gause (12), and Amaree McKnight (15), all played 34 minutes or more in the game against the Knights.
McKnight was the leading scorer for Catonsville putting up 11 out of the team's 28 points, with Gause right behind her totaling seven of the team's points. Sidney Spence (BK Law Tech) had the most rebounds for the Cardinals with 11 total; nine defensive and two offensive rebounds. Belinda Glenn (Forest Park) trailed slightly behind Spence with eight defensive rebounds in the game. The only other Cardinal to get an offensive rebound against the Knights besides Spence, was Erin McGuire (Centennial).
At the half, the score was 58-10, with Cardinals trailing the Knights.
The Cardinals continued to put up a fight in the second half scoring more than half of its total points for the night; 10 points scored in the first and 18 points scored for the Cardinals in the second half. The team made three out of seven free throws giving them a 42.9 percentage in free throws for the game. The only three-point shot made on the Cardinals team against the Knights, was scored by TyKeara Burden (Western).
The Cardinals will have one more chance to take home another win for the 2021-22 season. The season record sits at 11 wins and 8 losses.
The Catonsville Cardinals will visit Montgomery College on February 23rd to play the last game of the season. Tip- off is schedule for 5:30pm.
