Weedon Records Double-Double in Loss to Southern MD

Catonsville, Md. - The Lady Cardinals entered the Region XX DII Women's Basketball Tournament on Thursday with the No. 2 seed. They lined up against the College of Southern Maryland Hawks.

CCBC Catonsville faced the Hawks, which hold the No. 7 seed, earlier this season. Catonsville won that showdown 70-60.

Thursday's quarterfinal matchup turned out to be more defensive-heavy than the last time these squads went up against each other. After the first half, the score was knotted up at just 16 a piece.

Southern MD found an offensive groove in the second half, however, outscoring the Cardinals 14-8 in the third quarter, and 27-7 in the fourth. The Hawks won this tournament matchup 57-31.

Despite Catonsville's low-scoring contest, freshman Chante Weedon -- who earned 1st-team All-MD JUCO honors this season -- put up a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Theresa Sherrill also grabbed 10 boards for the Cards.

The Lady Cardinals finish the 2018-19 season with a 16-12 (.571) record and a 9-3 (.750) Conference record. The ladies averaged 71.5 points, 48.1 rebounds, 11.2 assists, and 10.5 steals per game.
