Softball Sweeps Fredrick to Secure MD Juco Championship

Fredrick, Md. – The CCBC Lady Cardinals traveled to Fredrick Community College this past Saturday to take on the Cougars in a double header and to secure the MD JuCo Championship. 

Game 1 Recap:

The first game of the double header was off to a slow start, with both teams scoreless through the end of two innings.  However, the Lady Cards started tallying up the score board in the 3rd, scoring one, and then two in the 4th, one in the 5th, and three in the 7th, while holding Fredrick to just one run in the 7th.  This gave Catonsville a convincing 7-1 win over the Cougars. 

Catonsville ran in five different players, while Marissa Heuer's commanding performance on the mound only allowed 4 hits and 1 run.  Casey Turner was having a great day in the batter's box, recording 3 hits, 3 runs, and 2 RBI's with her 3 at bats.  Heuer logged 1 hit, 1 run, and 3 RBI's as well, while Leah Propst, Amy Propst, and Hailey Manning each recorded a hit and a run in the first game of the double header. 

Game 2 Recap:

The Lady Cards carried the momentum from the first game's win into the second game of the day.  After being tied at 1 through the 2ndinning, the Lady Cardinals scored three more runs in the 3rd to give themselves a 4-1 buffer before pulling away by adding a pair of runs in both the 5th and 6th innings. 

Overall it was a great day offensively for Catonsville, with 5 different players scoring runs.  Alleshia Pullen, Jamie Smith, and Alexa Holderfield all ran in two while Casey Turner, and Hailey Manning each recorded one run.  Marissa Heuer also logged 3 RBI's, while Akirra Pullen and Jamie Smith each batted in two as well.  Casey Turner likewise recorded an RBI to help lead the Lady Cardinals to an 8-1 victory over Fredrick.  Catonsville was lead on the mound by Akirra Pullen, who only gave up three hits. 

This win secured the Lady Cardinal's place as MD JuCo Conference Champions and puts them at 34-8 overall this season (17-1 in the conference).  CCBC Catonsville is also ranked #15 overall in the latest NJCAA Division II Poll.  The Lady Cardinals will be back in action Wednesday, May 1st at home against Northern Virginia Community College before hosting the Region XX Tournament on May 9-11th.  Follow us on social media @CCBCCardsSports for more up to date information and live updates.
