Manning's Five RBIs Help Lady Cards Sweep Potomac State

Catonsville, MD- The Lady Cardinals matched-up against Potomac State College of WVU this past Saturday. Catonsville would complete the sweep over Potomac State, dominating the first game 13-2 in only five innings. The second game would go the full seven innings, with the Lady Cards defeating the Catamounts 7-4.

GAME 1: CCBC Catonsville 13, Potomac State College of WVU 2. WP- Marissa Heuer (13-1). LP- Taylor Townsend (4-5).

  • Marissa Heuer would pitch all five innings, allowing only five hits from twenty-five batters faced. Heuer would also hold the Catamounts to just two runs, while adding another four strikeouts to her season total.

  • Heuer would also get the game started for the Lady Cards with a statement two run homer in the first inning, setting the tone for the team early on.

  • RBIs from Casey Turner, Alexa Holderfield, and Hailey Manning in the second inning added to Catonsville's lead.

  • The Lady Cards would add another five runs in the third thanks to great baserunning and RBIs from Madeline English, Alexa Holderfield, and Marissa Heuer.

  • Potomac State would add two runs in the top of the fourth.

  • A Casey Turner RBI double in the fourth, combined with clutch pitching from Heuer in the fifth would end the first game.

 

GAME 2: CCBC Catonsville 7, Potomac State College of WVU 4. WP- Akirra Pullen (4-3). LP- Shyann Farris (5-5).

  • Akirra Pullen would pitch 6.1 innings, allowing twelve hits and four runs. Pullen would also strikeout seven batters. Marissa Heuer would come in for the save, pitching 0.2 innings, striking out both batters faced.

  • Madison Anderson of Potomac State would kick-off the game offensively with a two-run shot in the first inning and an RBI single from Tori Kane would extend the Catamount's lead.

  • Another Potomac State run batted in from Josie Deneen in the second brought the Catamount's lead to four.

  • The Lady Cards' bats would finally wake up in the fourth inning, when Chrissy Jordan's single brought in Alexa Holderfield and Casey Turner.

  • Solid hitting with the bases loaded from CCBC in the fifth helped the team steal back the lead. Alexa Holderfield's single would bring in one and Hailey Manning's double would clear the bases to put the team ahead by three runs.

 

After this double-header the CCBC Catonsville Lady Cardinals have a record of 23-7. The team will look to add another two wins to their season total when they square off against Allegany College of Southern Maryland on the April, 10th.
