Holderfields' Six RBI's lead softball over Harford

BEL AIR, Md. – The CCBC Catonsville softball team swept a doubleheader at Harford Community College on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Cardinals won a close 2-1 battle in game one before the bats lifted them to a 13-1 win in game two. With two more conference wins, the Lady Cardinals sit atop the Maryland JUCO Conference with a conference record of 8-0.

GAME 1: Lady Cardinals 2, Fighting Owls 1. WP- Marissa Heuer (12-1), LP- Amanda Sullivan (1-8)

  • After no runs in the first inning for both teams, Marissa Heuer gave herself some run support with an RBI double in the second inning.
  • The Fighting Owls scored a run to tie the game at one in the third inning with an RBI single by Jenna House.
  • The game was tied at 1 going into the fifth inning, when recently named NJCAA DII Softball Player of the Week, Casey Turner hit an RBI triple to give the Lady Cardinals the lead.
  • Heuer got the remaining nine outs of the game to get her 12th win of the season. She finished with nine strikeouts and just three hits in a complete game.

GAME 2: Lady Cardinals 13, Fighting Owls 1. WP- Chrissy Jordan (4-2), Amanda Sullivan (1-9)

  • Runs were at a premium in the first game, but they came early and often in the second game for the Lady Cardinals.
  • Alexa Holderfield got things going early with a two-run double and the five-run  inning was capped with a two-run home run by Akirra Pullen.
  • Holderfield was not done doing damage from the plate as she hit a three-run home run in the second game to open up a 8-0 lead in the second, they went on to score two more runs to lead 10-0 after two.
  • The raking continued for Holderfield in the third with a solo home run, she finished with six RBI's in the game and two home runs.
  • The Lady Cardinals added two more runs with RBI-doubles by Marissa Heuer and Akirra Pullen to lead 13-0 and they went on to win 13-1 in five innings via the Run-Ahead rule.
  • In the circle, Chrissy Jordan gave up just two hits and one earned run, while striking out four to get her fourth win of the season.

STANDOUT STATS

  • Alexa Holderfield drove in six runs on Wednesday to increase her season total to 30, which is third in the conference. The two players ahead of her are fellow Lady Cardinals' Marissa Heuer with 34 and Casey Turner with 33.
  • Heuer got the win in the first game on Wednesday and now has 12 on the season, which is tied for fifth in all of NJCAA Division II and with just one run allowed, her ERA goes down to 1.24 which is best in the conference.
  • Hailey Manning picked up three hits on Wednesday; she is batting .500 on the season which is second best in the conference.
  • The RBI-triple in the first game increased the season total to five for Casey Turner, which also leads the conference.
