Softball Spring Break Recap

The CCBC Lady Cardinals Softball team continued to roll during Spring Break winning five games to improve their season record to 14-8. The ladies look to continue their hot streak with a pair of double headers on the road this week before returning home to play Cecil College in a double header on Saturday afternoon.

The ladies started Spring Break with a double header at home against Lakeland Community College on Saturday, March 31st. Lakeland won both games of the double header with scores of 6-4 and 3-2 respectively.

Sophomore pitcher, Sarah Heagy (Eastern Tech) pitched the last six and a third innings of the first game and gave up only one run in her relief appearance.

Freshman center fielder, Alleshia Pullen (Dulaney) was the star on offense for the Lady Cardinals with two RBI’s in the first game of the double header.

In the second game, the star for the Lady Cardinals was freshman, Amy Propst (Baltimore, MD) in both facets of the game. She threw a complete game giving up only one earned run. Offensively she had the only RBI of the game for the Lady Cardinals with a Sac-fly; she leads the team in RBI’s for the season.

The Cardinals travelled to Delaware Tech Community College on Tuesday April 3rd. The Cardinals swept the double header with a 12-1 win in the first game and 6-5 win in the second.

Propst continued her damage with pitching another complete game. She gave up no earned runs in her five inning start as the Cardinals won the game with the run-ahead rule (eight run lead after five innings).

She had a home run and seven RBI’s in the game; she is the leader in the MD JUCO conference for both RBI’s and home runs. Other contributors on offense were Pullen, whp had a home run and two RBI’s in the game and freshman right fielder, Jamie Smith (Arundel), who had her first home run of her young Lady Cardinals’ career.

After pitching five innings in the first game, Propst pitched the last two and two-thirds innings of the second game to get her first save of the season.

Pullen and sophomore third baseman, Kelly Krizmanich (Paint Branch) had two RBI’s each in the game to help the Lady Cardinals get their eleventh win of the season.

The Lady Cardinals hosted Hagerstown Community College on Saturday, April 7th. The Cardinals continued to roll and won both games of the double header with scores of 2-1 and 8-0.

Propst continued to dominate on the mound giving up only one run in her seven inning complete game start. She pitched her fourth complete game of the season and earned her seventh win of the season, which is tied for the lead in the conference.

The Lady Cardinals scored two runs in the sixth inning to win the game 2-1. Propst and sophomore second baseman, Alexis Sann (North County) each had a RBI in the game.

In the second game of the double header, Heagy pitched a complete game shutout, as the team won 8-0. Heagy improved her ERA to 1.92 which is the third lowest in the conference.

Propst was the big star on offense with a home run and three RBI’s. She continues to be the conference leader in home runs with five and RBI’s with thirty five. Sophomore third baseman, Stephanie Yarrish (Howard) had two RBI’s in the game.

The Lady Cardinals travelled to Rowan College in Burlington County, NJ to play a double header on Sunday, April 8th. The teams split the double header, with Rowan winning the first game, 7-4 and the Lady Cardinals winning the second game, 11-1 with the run-ahead rule.

Propst pitched a complete game in the first game of the double header. Despite giving up four earned runs, she has the fifth lowest ERA in the conference at 1.99. She had an RBI in the game offensively.

Heagy did most of the damage on offense having two doubles and two RBI’s. She has nine doubles on the season which is tied for third in the conference.

In the second game of the double header, Heagy pitched a complete game giving up only one run to get her sixth win of the season, which is the fifth most wins in the conference.

The big star on offense was sophomore catcher, Erin Muir (Loch Raven), going 3 for 3 with three RBI’s in the game. She increased her average to .567 on the season which is the second highest in the conference.

Sann and Krizmanich each had two RBI’s in the Lady Cardinals’ fourteenth win of the season.       

The Lady Cardinals are on the road this week to play a pair of double headers against conference opponents, Garett College on Wednesday, April 11th and Anne Arundel Community College on Thursday, April 12th before returning home to play Cecil College on Saturday, April 14th.
