Cardinal T&F Athlete Performs Well at West Chester University

One of the keys to performing well in an outdoor sport can be the weather.  Warmer temperatures assist in helping the athlete's body run smoothly like a fine-tuned engine. Colder temperatures can hinder both the preparation and execution. So an athlete's mental toughness can play a huge part of their performances when there are adverse conditions. Saturday's weather in West Chester PA at the WCU Golden Ram Invite was adverse.

Head T&F Coach Mark Pryor has historically helped his athletes peak at the right time. On the high school level, his athletes produced career best often winning county, regionals and state titles. On the collegiate level, Coach Pryor has helped his athletes qualify and then compete well at National Championships both D-I and Junior College.  It takes advance planning, attention to detail and the wisdom to know when to push and when to pull back. So far, this outdoor track season, his athletes are improving steadily at each competition.  The goal is to peak in May which is when the National Junior College T&F Championships are scheduled.

Sophomore Adam Lmansour ran well in 2021 despite fighting off issues with his shins and calfs.  Coach Pryor was very careful in prescribing workouts that would further Adam's ability to race on the track.  Pool workouts, stationary bike and the weight room were key ingredients to helping Adam not lose his season to injury.  With only four track workouts in 8 weeks, Adam was able to run a decent time in May at Liberty University.

Yesterday at the WCU Golden Ram Invite, despite cold 48-degree weather; Adam ran just .60 secs off that time he ran in May 2021. Adam placed 3rd in the 400m event and then ran the 200m dash placing 5th overall.  It was an excellent performance despite the cold weather and strong winds.

The goal for Lmansour is to help him run :47 seconds or better for 400 meters and attract an athletic scholarship on the D-I or D-II levels. According to Coach Pryor, things are progressing well.  They just need a little help from Mother Nature.

Soph Ryheim Hall had been improving his 800m time at the last 2 meets in Towson and Delaware.  Saturday, with the cold weather Ryheim was slowed in his performance by allergies and difficulty breathing.  The cold temperatures didn't help him.

The start of Spring Break for most college students means they get to relax and often time "blow off some steam" from the stress and demands of their academic classes.  For the CCBC Catonsville Track & Field team, spring break means training and preparations will be their sole focus.

The next scheduled competition will be the Bill Butler Invitational again at West Chester University.  WCU boast one of the best track & field facilities on the east coast.  Let's hope it's a lot warmer.
