CARDINAL T&F TEAM MOVING CLOSER TO THEIR GOALS

CARDINAL T&F TEAM MOVING CLOSER TO THEIR GOALS

Career and Season Bests times highlight at Delaware State Sting Invite

With only two days rest from their last outdoor track meet, the CCBC Catonsville T&F team traveled to Delaware State Univ with optimism and focus.  The team's season opener at Richmond Univ was a nice start.  The Towson Invitational indicated that the work had been put in.  But yesterday's Delaware State Sting Invite was exactly what Head Coach Mark Pryor was looking for from his athletes.

When rhythm and timing are involved, sometimes you just want to keep going and not have a break between performing. That's what Coach Pryor was looking for by scheduling a meet just 2 days after the team's last scheduled track meet. He wanted to keep the ball rolling and the team's focus sharp and pinpoint.  By not letting the usual 5-6 days lapse between competitions, the athletes were forced to keep their thoughts on their goals and performances on the track.

The weather in Baltimore on Tuesday and Wednesday was rain, rain and more rain. Luckily, that ran didn't travel to Delaware. It was a cool day in Dover reaching highs of 57 degrees, but the wind died down enough to allow the Sting Invite's mid week track meet worthwhile.  Different from the big invitationals, this track meet was small in numbers but big on performances with schools from nearby PA, DE and MD.  Coach Etroy Nelson called it a "dual meet" vibe.

Adam Lmansour started the day off by placing 6th in the men's 400m event with his 2nd best time of the season. His body steadily adjusting to his fasting for RAMADAN.  Pleased with his output, Adam returned to the track and ran the 200m dash placing 6th overall.  It is very hard to sprint in cold and windy conditions but Adam handled the weather and his competition very well.

Ryheim Hall's first ever college track meet was at Delaware State in 2021. He was familiar with the track and his main competition in Dover. With newfound mental toughness, Hall powered his way to placing 2nd in the race and lowering his personal best for 800 meters once again.

With training going well and his athletes focused, Coach Pryor is happily looking forward to warmer weather, better competition and performances closer to if not surpassing the team goals. Spring Break starts on Friday but there will be no break in training or racing for the Track & Field team.

The next scheduled meet will be this Saturday, April 9th at the Golden Ram Invitational hosted by West Chester University in PA. The T&F facilities are first-class at West Chester Univ and former CCBC Catonsville runner Dalon Harris won both the 400m and 200m events back in 2019. Coach Pryor is hoping to score similiar results on Saturday.  Let's hope the weather cooperates.
