Freshman Da'Lon Harris Fights Back Strong Winds to Place First at Paul Kaiser Classic

April 27, 2019

The CCBC Catonsville T&F team traveled up 83 towards Pennsylvania for the 15th Annual Paul Kaiser Classic held at Shippensburg University.  The hosts school has a strong tradition of excellence in cross county and T&F, so Coach Pryor was looking forward to another strong challenge for his precious freshman quarter-miler.

In all but his first college meet, freshman Da'Lon Harris has finished 1st or 2nd place which is a testament to his work ethic.  On Saturday, he was looking forward to running against some of the best Division II athletes in the nation.  But Mother Nature had her own plans.

One clue that the weather wouldn't cooperate was the signs scattered throughout 83 North that read: CAUTION STRONG WINDS.  The drive from Baltimore to PA was slow and cautious as the team van swayed with each heavy gusts of wind.  Those strong winds were also in Shippensburg and hampered every running & jumping event.

Harris handled the strong gusty winds like a seasoned veteran and controlled the race until the last 150 meters where he exhibited his strength and powered down the home stretch for the victory.  While the time was not as fast as wanted, the strategy and execution worth the trip.

The next scheduled competition will be Friday, May 3rd at the Kehoe Twilight Meet at the Univ of Maryland in College Park.
