Cardinals Come Up Short Against AACC

FINAL: Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks: 2 CCBC Catonsville Cardinals: 1

On Tuesday, September 19th, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals traveled to Anne Arundel Community College to face the 3-1-3 Riverhawks. The Cardinals entered the game with a 3-3-1 record, fighting to re-gain their spot at the top of Region 20. The Riverhawks and the Cardinals both had very similar standings in the division, which made this match a crucial one.

The Cardinals got off to a quick start, firing three shots within the first 15 minutes of the contest. Sophomore forward Mike Miranda (Lansdowne) was able to apply constant pressure on the Riverhawks' back line, totaling four shots on the game, eventually knocking in a penalty kick shortly into the second half. Freshman forward Mykal Hogan (Boys Latin) continued to remain consistent with his attacking play with a shot on goal. Unfortunately, the Catonsville offense could not find the back of the net again, despite their aggressive play and multiple scoring chances created by Hogan.

Once again, the Cardinals defense was able to hold strong against a very talented Riverhawks offense. The Riverhawks tallied 16 shots throughout the match, only scoring on two. The Riverhawks were able to score fairly quick into the contest, and were held to one goal for most of the game. With about 10 minutes to go, Anne Arundel's Ethan Belcher was able to sneak behind the Catonsville defense and score the final goal of the contest.

The Cardinals look to bounce back on Thursday, September 21st as they take on CCBC Essex in a massive rivalry game that you won't want to miss. Essex will be a tough opponent as they are 7-1 on the year. Come out and support the Cardinals this Thursday in this long-awaited match!
