Cardinals Break Losing Streak with Dominant Win

CCBC Catonsville's men's soccer team scored their second win of the season on Tuesday, as they blasted past Hagerstown 4-0.

The Cardinals' offense erupted for four goals, with sophomore striker Mike Miranda (Lansdowne) scoring two himself. It's the best offensive performance of the season for the Cardinals, and also serves as the best defensive performance of the year.

Catonsville's defense authored their first shutout performance of the season, holding Hagerstown to just two total shots. Freshman goalie Franklin Duarte (Meade) recorded his first shutout as a Cardinal as the defense kept Hagerstown on their own side of the pitch all day.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals offense went on a mission. Catonsville recorded 24 total shots, their most of the season. Freshman forward Giovanni Alonso (Lansdowne) authored the first score off a pass from sophomore defender Paul Catalfamo (Kenwood). It was the first lead the Cardinals have held since the season opener against Mercer. Catonsville would extend the lead towards the end of the first half as Miranda scored his first of two.

Miranda extended the lead in the second with his second goal. Now leading 3-0, the Cardinals sent one final shot in off the cleat of freshman forward Bradley Ramirez (Newtown). The final goal put an exclamation point on the Cardinals' win.

With their biggest win of the season in the rearview mirror, the Cardinals look towards a two-game homestand, beginning with a match against Frederick on September 12.
