Mercer Defeats Cardinals 5-1

Catonsville, MD- In Friday's exhibition matchup against Mercer County Community College, the Cardinals lost to a tough, disciplined Vikings team that controlled the tempo of the contest right from the beginning.

The Vikings quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead after Mercer's, Elichi Yamaguchi, notched a goal in the first half at the fourth minute and then again at the 22nd minute. Eduardo Effting tallied a goal in the 18th minute unassisted after the Cardinals allowed their own goal in the 10th minute. It turned out to be a tough task for goalie Anthony Maseda, who faced seven shots on goal. But, he was able to save three of those attempts from the Vikings. The Cardinals were finally able to tally a goal from defender, Bastian Campos, in the second half at the 57th minute to shorten the lead to 4-1. However, the Vikings would ultimately seal the victory after Daiki Nagata scored a goal in the 68th minute, unassisted.

The Cardinals were almost able to match the Vikings from the number of shots taken during the game. The Vikings registered thirteen shots while the Cardinals marked up nine shots overall.

Next Thursday, the Cardinals will host Prince George's Community College at 4pm.
