Cardinals Drop Fourth Straight in Overtime

CCBC Catonsville's men's basketball team dropped their fourth straight contest on Sunday, falling to Niagara County Community College 78-72 in overtime.

After being held to just 28 points in the first half, the Cardinals rallied to force overtime but would come up short to the Thunder Wolves. The loss dropped the Cardinals to 8-5 on the season.

Trailing 43-28 at the half, the Cardinals began to slowly chip away at Niagara's lead. A three-pointer from freshman guard Micah Morgan (West Nottingham) made it an eight-point game with 14 minutes left. Niagara extended their lead but Catonsville kept it close. With six minutes to go, a layup from sophomore guard Jo-Nathan Kelly (Strawberry Mansion) cut the lead to seven. Another Kelly layup cut the lead to five. With five minutes to go, freshman guard Lance Porter (Randallstown) made it a three-point game.

Niagara finally responded with a series of baskets, but the Cardinals kept within striking distance. With three minutes to go, another Kelly score made it a two-point game. With two to go, freshman guard Sean Clark (Mount St. Joseph) hit a three to give the Cardinals the lead. Niagara quickly hit a jumper to tie the game at 67, and with neither team able to score in the final minute, the game went to overtime.

Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the magic ran out in overtime. Catonsville was held to just five points as the Thunder Wolves pulled away to secure the win.

Sophomore guard Murray Grant (Obra D. Thompkins) finished as the leading scorer for the Cardinals with 23 points. Clark had seven points, ten rebounds, and three assists, while sophomore forward Albright Obode (Plainfield) added 14 points and six rebounds.

Despite the loss, the Cardinals remain fifth in Region 20 and will look to break their losing streak against region-leading Prince George's on Friday.
