CCBC Catonsville vs CCBC Essex game recap

On Thursday March 14th, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals hosted the CCBC Essex Knights in a one-game battle and the Cardinals first Region XX game of the year. This game came down to the wire, but the cardinals were able to out hit the knights in a close 15-13 game. 

After a scoreless first inning the Knights where able to score five runs in the top of second inning, but the Cardinals where able to come back and score two of their own when Nelson Grajales (Arundel) walked to start off the inning and with back-to-back hits form Alex Valdez (Blair) and Tyler Sankovich (Laurel Highlands) and with the bases loaded Jake Long (Arundel) reached on an error by the knights second baseman which scored Grajales and Valdez.  

In the fifth inning, after the cardinals John Perozzi (Audubon) put up two scoreless innings, they would go to a four spot in the inning. Starting with back-to-back homeruns from Tank Kelley (Winter Park) and Trenton Snyder (Oak Park). Later in the inning after back-to-back singles from Nick Stergiou (Broadneck) and Nelson Grajales and Gavin Faulkner (Edgewater) recached on an error by the first basemen the bases were loaded for Alex Valdez who hit a sacrifice fly to score Stergiou from third. Then Tyler Sankovich would double to score Grajales from second. This would make the score 6-5 cardinals after five. 

In the sixth the Knights would tack on four runs and the Cardinals would only get one back that inning after another homerun by Tank Kelley. But in the seventh the Cardinal's offense would explode for seven runs. After two walks and a hit by pitch the bases were loaded for Tyler Sankovich where he would walk to score Grajales from third then Jake long would rip a bases clearing double down the left field line then Kevin Santos (North County) would get and rbi after getting on by an error by the knight's shortstop which allowed Long to score from second. But the scoring didn't stop there after a Trenton Snyder walk Nick Stergiou singled to center field which scored Santos. Then after Grajales got on for the second time in the inning with a single to left Valdez with the bases loaded got hit by a pitch for the second time in the inning this would bring in Synder from third. That would make the score 14-9 after the seventh. 

In the eighth after two scoreless innings from Andrew Bubon (Lake Brantley). Jake Long was trying to put the final knockout punch after he hit a homerun to center field to make the score 15-9. But the Knights weren't going to go down that easily as after a couple of extra base hits and a run scoring on an error the score would be 15-13 but after a 5-4-3 double play Liam Karey (Boys Latin) was able to strike out the last batter. As the Cardinals came away with the 15-13 win.
