Cecil Barone shuts down Cecil College

CCBC Catonsville shut down Cecil College on Tuesday, defeating the Seahawks 8-0.

In a dominant showing from freshman pitcher Cecil Barone (Hereford), the Cardinals kept Cecil off the board while capitalizing on Seahawk mistakes.

Catonsville struck first in the bottom of the third. After sophomore second baseman Orlando Perez Jr. (Winter Park) scored on a wild pitch, sophomore catcher Tony D'Angeli (Atholton) hit a fielder's choice that brought another run home. Leading 2-0, the Cardinals extended their lead in the fourth when Perez hit an RBI single.

The 3-0 lead was extended further in the seventh as the Cardinals score five more runs. Freshman outfielder Jalen Williams (Western Tech) smacked an RBI double to right field, then advanced to third on a passed ball that scored sophomore outfielder Angelo Ramirez (North Atlanta). Singles from freshman first baseman Nick Stergiou (Broadneck) and sophomore designated hitter Miles Bowens (Tucker) extended the lead to 8-0. A dominant performance from Barone in the final innings kept the Seahawks off the board and preserved the shutout.

Barone pitched 8.2 innings, throwing 79 strikes and recording five strikeouts. Williams had an RBI and a double, as did Perez.
