Cardinals Come Up Short against Hawks

CCBC Catonsville's baseball team was unable to secure the sweep over the College of Southern Maryland, falling 8-6 in game two of their doubleheader.

Despite taking an early lead, the Cardinals were undone by a five-run first inning by the Hawks. A late rally fell short for the Cardinals, dropping them to 21-14 on the season.

Catonsville struck first as freshman first baseman Nick Stergiou (Broadneck) slammed a three-run home run over the fence. The Hawks would immediately respond, scoring five straight runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-3 lead.

Southern Maryland would extend their lead to 7-3 after two more runs scored in the second. It wouldn't be until the fifth that the Cardinals got back on the board. A single by sophomore catcher Tony D'Angeli (Atholton) brought home a run to make it 7-4.

After Southern Maryland added another run in the sixth, the Cardinals began working on a rally. A single from sophomore shortstop Moises Aristy Jr. (Arundel) brought home the first run in the top of the seventh. D'Angeli then singled to bring home another run, making it 8-6. But a double-play by the Hawks would end the contest, snuffing out a comeback attempt.
