Cardinals Blow 5-Run Lead in Season Opener

The 2023 CCBC Catonsville baseball season got off to a rocky start on Saturday, February 18, as the Cardinals fell 6-5 in their season opener against Seminole State College.

After building up a 5-0 lead in the first two innings, the Cardinals allowed six unanswered runs, including three in the bottom of the seventh.

Sophomore pitcher Patrick Bauer (Mt. St. Joseph) dominated the game for the Cardinals, pitching a shutout in the first two innings. Helped by two RBIs by sophomore outfielder Wyatt Moore (West Orange), the Cardinals built up a 5-0 lead.

However, Seminole State would come back in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three straight runs to make it 5-3. Relief pitcher Jack Angus allowed just one hit by the Cardinals after Catonsville had gotten six off of Seminole State starter Blake D'Arville.

In the bottom of the seventh, Seminole State scored another three runs to complete the comeback, winning 6-5. Both teams would then gear up for the second game later that day.
