Battle for the Region
Our first game of this years Region 20 DII Baseball tournament was a sister vs. sister match up. CCBC Catonsville takes on CCBC Essex for the first round of the Region Tournament. Results below:
Top 1st: Due to seeding, the home team would be Essex in this matchup due to seeding, so Catonsville starts with the bats. The cardinals put together one hit from Alex Elliott in their top half of the inning, but no runs would come of it, 0-0
Bottom 1st: Essex takes advantage of their at-bats and puts together five hits, 2 of which were doubles and 1 of which was a three-run home run by Eric Elliott to deep center. 6-0
Top 2nd: Lexies Calderon strings a single. The Cards then go three up, three down. 6-0
Bottom 2nd: Dan Delaney comes in for Patrick Bauer. The Knights have another successful inning at the plate with a double into the left from Luis Marrero, allowing Wiskar Vicente Martinez to score. 7-0
Top 3rd: The cardinals start warming up the bats with two hits. One from Orlando Perez Jr and another from Angelo Ramirez. We score one thanks to a wild pitch. 7-1
Bottom 3rd: This was a quiet inning for Essex. They flew out, drew one walk, and then grounded into a double play to end the inning.7-1
Top 4th: To start the inning, we have two strikeouts from Lexies Calderon and Tomas Martinez. The Cardinals then inch closer with one run and two hits, only stranding one on base. 7-2
Bottom 4th: This inning was a big one for Essex; they put up four runs off of 2 hits and left three stranded. 2 of 4 runs came from an RBI single to right field from Armando Prieto Essex jumped ahead. 11-2
Top 5th: Jimmy Flame, the announcer of the broadcasted tournament, summed up this inning perfectly in his cast as "the craziest thing I have ever seen in casting baseball." The inning starts with a hot single from Roman March. He later scored from a two-run RBI Single from Tony D'Angeli. Lexies Calderon slams a substantial 3-run home run, and following the home run, Tomas Martinez and Christian Figueroa both get on base setting up Roman March, who bombs the second 3-run shot in the same inning. At the end of the inning, the Cardinals scored 9, had 8 Hits, and left no one stranded. 11-11
Bottom 5th: Essex comes out on the offensive and tries to make something work with two outs, bust strand one on base for a quick shutdown inning.
Top 6th: the cardinals have a quiet top 5th, only scoring one after Tony D'Angeli was hit by a pitch and eventually cut off of a balk. Cards lead 12-11
Bottom 6th: Essex answers in a big way at the bottom of the 6th, putting up five runs off of 4 hits thanks to Alvin Carela, who singles to drive in an RBI, and Wiskar Vicente Martinez and Likeiry Taveras Jimenez with a three-run shot. Essex leads 12-16
Top 7th: Another quiet inning for the cards as they only put up one run off of 0 hits. 13-16
Bottom 7th: Essex has yet another successful inning putting up four runs off of 4 hits. The notables of this inning were: Emmanuel Maldonado's solo shot, Liam Bowers's solo shot, and Alvin Carela RBI double. 13-20
