Cardinals baseball sweep the weekend with four wins over Tompkins Cortland

CATONSVILLE, Md. – The CCBC Catonsville Cardinals baseball team added two more wins to their 2019 season record, going 4-0 on the weekend against Tompkins Cortland. You can view Saturday's action here.

Sunday, the teams matched up for their third and fourth games of the weekend, and the Cards came out on top in both, winning by the scores of 15-4 and 8-2, respectively. After an impressive weekend, the four wins moves the Cardinals to 6-5 on the young season.

Game 1: Cardinals 15, Panthers 4: WP – Alex Bolton (1-1), LP – Christian Maloney (0-1)

  • Right-hander Alex Bolton gave up four runs on the day – three earned – over 4 1/3 innings of work.
  • The first game ended after five innings under a mutual agreement to end via mercy rule.
  • Six Cardinals registered multi-hit games: Zeke Maldonado, Aronne Dutton, Nick Carpio, Easy Goita, Hunter Todd and Dwayne Thomas.
  • Five extra base knocks were hit by the Cards: Two doubles for Dutton, one double each for Carpio and Todd, and a triple for Goita.
  • Catonsville picked right back up in their offensive attack where they left off Saturday, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added an additional six runs in the fourth inning.

Game 2: Cardinals 8, Panthers 2: WP – Andrew Caccamisi (1-0), LP – Ethan Buckley (0-1), SV – Trevor Smoot (2)

  • Before giving up two runs in the fifth inning, Andrew Caccamisi hadn't allowed a single baserunner through four innings. He finished his day with two earned runs allowed and two punchouts over 4 2/3 innings.
  • The Cards scored the least amount of runs in game four of the weekend, but hit for more power. Maldonado and Todd each hit home runs for Catonsville.
  • The Cards were flying on the base paths in Sunday's second win, swiping three bases – one each for Dutton, Goita, and Andre Lambert.
  • Trevor Smoot finished things up in relief of Caccamisi with four strikeouts over the game's final 2 1/3 innings.

STANDOUT STATS

  • Maldonado was a table setter all day for Catonsville, going 4-for-6 with a double, homer, walk, and three RBIs.
  • Todd went 4-for-5 on the day with two doubles, a homer, and two RBIs. He had eight hits over 10 at-bats (.800) for the entire weekend.
  • Cardinals' starting pitchers sported a 2.61 ERA for the weekend, giving up six earned runs over 20 2/3 innings.
