Baseball begins the season playing seven games in Florida

CATONSVILLE, Md. – The CCBC Catonsville baseball team began their 2019 season in Florida going 2-5 in the first seven games of the season. The Cardinals travelled around Florida facing four teams as they tune up for the season. The Maryland portion of their 2019 season will begin on March 1 when they take on Sussex County right here in Catonsville.

Game 1 (Feb. 16): Seminole State College 6, CCBC Catonsville 3 (7 Innings)

  • The Cardinals started the season in Sanford, Fla., against the Raiders with Keiran Garner making his Cardinal debut on the mound. The Clarksville, Maryland, native pitched a complete game striking out two and giving up five hits.
  • Offensively for the Cardinals, Lucas Carr went 1 for 3 driving in a run. Zeke Maldonado, Aronne Dutton, and Easy Goita scored were the three Cardinals that crossed home plate in the first game on Saturday.

Game 2 (Feb. 16): CCBC Catonsville 9, Seminole State College 1 (7 Innings)

  • The Cardinals scored four runs in the sixth inning on their way to their first win of the season

Game 3 (Feb. 18): Lake-Sumter State College 18, CCBC Catonsville 5

  • Despite scoring four runs in the top of the fourth, the Cardinals were not able to string together a big rally to get back into the game.

Game 4 (Feb. 19): College of Central Florida 26, CCBC Catonsville 1 (7 innings)

  • The Cardinals were able to pull within a run in the top of the third, but the Patriots scored 19 runs in the last two innings to win via the Run-Ahead rule.

Game 5 (Feb. 21): Daytona State 11, CCBC Catonsville (7 innings)

  • Falling behind 8-1 after three innings, the Cardinals outscored the Falcons 4-3 over the next four innings but the early lead was too much to overcome.

Game 6 (Feb. 21): CCBC Catonsville 11, Daytona State 3

  • The game was scoreless going into the fifth inning, when the Cardinals' bats heated up and scored 11 runs as they went on to win their second game of the season.

Game 7 (Feb. 22): Daytona State 8, CCBC Catonsville 6

  • The Cardinals managed to score five runs in the fifth, down 6-0 going into the inning, but they could not close the gap in the last game of the Florida trip.

UP NEXT

The Cardinals head back home to begin their Maryland portion of their schedule with a three game series against Sussex County Community College starting with the home opener on March 1 and doubleheader on March 2.
